We’re all trying to better ourselves, whether that’s through the food we eat or the exercise we do. However, when we start our journey of improving ourselves, we can be inundated with so much information it can become overwhelming. Below are books you can look at to find out the truth about food and nutrition.

Real Food: What to Eat and Why by Nina Planck

This is an incredible book if you’re just starting your journey. Nina Planck, who has written many books on nutrition, has so much passion and appreciation for the lifestyle of eating real food. She specifically talks about the myths about foods like butter and animal fats, dispelling the myth that they’re inherently wrong and unhealthy. This is the book to read if you want to repair your relationship with food.

Cooked by Michael Pollan

Michael Pollan, the host of the Netflix series of the same name, is a well-known author, journalist, and another great author to read. “Cooked” talks about constantly using the four natural elements (fire, earth, water, air) in everyday cooking. This book talks about his journey of learning to cook by using the elements: grilling using fire, cooking using liquids, the process of baking bread (the use of air), and the fermentation process.

Food Rules by Michael Pollan

If you’re looking for a good starter book of Michael’s to read, this is definitely the book for you. Michael does an excellent job of explaining that there are no coulds or shoulds in food, no lists of yesses or nos that come with today’s fad diets. Eating healthy is about eating the real foods, the natural and unprocessed food that helps get us back to the roots of who we are as people. He also comes prepared, taking influences from different cultures and how they look at food as well.

Know Your Fats by Mary Enig

Dr. Enig is a well-known researcher and nutritionist expert, especially regarding fats. One great thing about her book is that she spends a lot of time dispelling myths about the role of fats and cholesterol in diets, especially those that talk about fats and cholesterol-causing diseases. She does an incredible job showing the hard scientific facts when it comes to different fats and cholesterol in the realm of human physiology and how they affect our health.
